Lee Abbuhl is a 30 year aerospace
and NASA veteran. He spent the last ten years of his career
writing software to support Nastran and Elfini, and writing
section and fatigue analysis software. He may be reached at
labbuhl@fe-tools.com.
FEAview has its roots in commercial aircraft
structural analysis. The original program, written in about
1990, was a post-processor for Nastran and for Dassault Avion's
Elfini. That program interfaced with several other engineering
applications. It ran on Unix workstations. Nastran and post-processing
code ran on a Cray Y-MP. Elfini and post-processing code ran
on IBM mainframes.
FEAview began as a project to modernize
that program and to add a few modeling capabilities. FEAview
is a Windows C++ program that uses OpenGL for graphics.
FEAview version 3.0 is a project to adapt FEAview to
Windows Vista and Windows 7, to fix problems, and look at future directions.
